Dr. O’Neil “Jay” Parenton is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist (OB/GYN) dedicated to providing exceptional, patient-centered care at Louisiana Women’s Healthcare. In addition to his clinical practice, he serves as the Vice Chairman of LWH’s Board of Managers, ensuring the highest standards of quality and excellence in women’s healthcare.
Dr. Parenton specializes in both high- and low-risk obstetrics, with a deep commitment to personalized care. He is a strong advocate for natural childbirth options, offering alternative approaches to medicated deliveries including ambulation during labor, to create a more comfortable and empowering birthing experience.
Beyond obstetrics, Dr. Parenton is highly skilled in minimally invasive pelvic surgery, including robotically assisted and laparoscopic hysterectomy, endometrial ablations, hysteroscopy, and elective sterilization procedures. His expertise in these advanced techniques allows for reduced recovery times and improved patient outcomes.
A Louisiana native, Dr. Parenton earned his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Louisiana State University in 2004. He went on to receive his medical degree from Ross University in 2010 before completing his residency at LSU Health Sciences Center in Baton Rouge, where he trained at Earl K. Long Hospital and Woman’s Hospital. During his final year, he was honored to serve as an administrative chief resident, a testament to his leadership and dedication to the field.
Committed to staying at the forefront of advancements in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Parenton actively participates in professional organizations, including the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. His dedication to continuing education ensures that his patients receive the latest, most effective treatments available.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Parenton enjoys playing golf, a sport that challenges him while providing relaxation. A passionate supporter of LSU athletics, he frequently attends games and events. Most importantly, he values spending quality time with his family and friends, maintaining a healthy work-life balance that enhances his ability to provide compassionate care.
